Tim Burton’s version of Alice in Wonderland draws inspiration from Lewis Carroll’s The adventures of Alice in Wonderland (1865) and Through the looking glass (1871). Alice is no longer a child, but a young woman rejecting an arranged marriage. Burton looks at things more darkly than Caroll, but his heroine is more lively, stronger and richer than the original. She dwells in an extradorinary universe, making us live a fascinating dream.
