It is 1981 and one of the coldest winters in ages. In the village of Kars, on Turkey’s east side, coal is worth as much as diamonds. Serhat, Gürbüz and Ibo go with their sledge to look for coal. A vital task, which they embark on as a serious game, but which is not tolerated by the military. The beautifully filmed Snow Pirates denounces, on a child’s scale, the military dictatorship.
