ECFA Documentary Award

With the ECFA Doc Award, ECFA gives special attention to European quality documentaries produced for a young audience, promoting this specific genre towards audiences and festivals. www.ecfaweb.org

The ECFA Doc Award was launched in 2016, in cooperation with doxs!, the young audience festival within the Duisburger Filmwoche (Germany). In organising this prize, ECFA is working to raise awareness about documentary movies for a young audience, stimulate the debate and work towards a better European spreading of documentary films.

The ECFA Award follows a nominations and election procedure, parallel with the general ECFA Award. The final vote is open to all ECFA members, choosing the ‘Best European Young Audience Documentary of the Year’. The award is handed out during the International Filmfestival Berlin – Berlinale.

Vincent Adatte (Switzerland)

Vincent Adatte i s born in 1959, Neuchâtel, in Switzerland and is cinema journalist , founder and coproducer of “the Little Lessons of Cinema”? He is also Artistic Diretor af the cineclub for kids and youngsters “La Lanterne Magique” right frpm the start in 1992.

 

 

Janet van den Brand (Belgium)

Janet van den Brand is a Dutch fiction and documentary director. Janet graduated in 2012 from the Sint-Lukas Art Academy in Brussels, with her children short film „Rosa, Anna’s lil’ sis”. This short film was selected for various international film festival, including the Berlinale Generation competition. Janet finished her master studies at the KASK Art Academy in Ghent in 2015, with the short film „Dog days”. This film was also selected for various international film festivals. Janet started to work on her debut feature film in 2015: „Ceres” – a poetic documentary about four children who grow up at their ancestors farms in The Netherlands. www.janetvdbrand.com

Merel Gilsing (Netherlands)

Merel Gilsing works at the education department of the Dutch Film museum EYE, as coordinator for the industry. Merel is an expert in children and youth cinema, and advises filmmakers, distributors and producers on targeting young audiences and developing educational programmes. She is also responsible for the selection of films for national school programmes and short film youth programmes. Merel also works as a programmer at the Cinekid Film Festival.
