The film is set in the fictional town of Everington in real Durham during the British miners’ strike of 1984-1985. The town is badly affected by the strike. The little boy Billy, from one of the striking workers’ families, wants to take ballet lessons. His father wants him to go boxing. The film received three BAFtAs for best film, best actor Jamie Bell and best female supporting actor Julie Walters.
