Lord of the Flies

Peter Brook

A plane crash leaves a group of English students on a deserted island. They will have to grow up faster than they were expecting. Quickly, the group splits into two: Ralph’s team wants to build huts, gather food. Jack’s group wants to hunt wild boar. Jack and Ralph create more and more conflict. They both want to lead. Jack’s group turns mean and violent, while Ralph’s team tries to stay civil and calm. The growing rivalry leads to a bloody and scary climax…
The movie is an adaptation of the novel by the Nobel Prize winning writer William Golding. Director and writer Peter Brook took the cast (all non-professional young actors) and crew to a Caribbean Island and improvised with them on the spot. The photography and the black and white color scheme are precious. This film was nominated for the ‘Golden Palm’ in Cannes.
