SUSTAINABILITY

SUSTAINABILITY, OUR STANDARD!
CONSCIOUSLY CHOOSING FOR PEOPLE AND THE ENVIRONMENT

Filemon vzw is committed to sustainable development, a process that started a few years ago and which is continued every year. We pay attention to the functioning of the organization by making the Filem’On Film Festival more climate neutral, but also to the aspects put forward by the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).

The team is motivated to ensure that ecological, social and financial sustainability, together with participatory functioning, are part of the new DNA of the organization. In this process, we have also consulted our stakeholders and worked on certain selected SDGs and GRI standards as the focus of our operation. In this way, we also meet the criteria of a sound sustainability report (SDG 12.6).

The first step could already be found in our vision/mission: “Stimulate visual and media literacy for children and young people (from 2 to 15 years of age) of all cultures and language communities in Brussels and Flanders” (SDG 4.6). In addition, we provide cultural education, which is shaped by a fun, innovative film program with strong content and pioneering image education towards the various target groups: families, youth groups, schools.

Through our projects “Filmburger” and “Blikopener” (short film series for schools) accompanied by the necessary educational support, we also meet the education of the SDGs and promote knowledge about sustainable development (SDG 4.7). We see film as an engine for awareness, change and as a means to discuss more difficult topics in class, such as discrimination and inequality in e.g. identity formation and diversity.

In the composition of our team and board, we strive for gender equality (SDG 5.1 and GRI 202-1 401-2). In our programming and audience outreach, we do not exclude anyone and – true to our mission – we are inclusive in our operations (SDG 10.2). This is reflected in the price reduction for underprivileged people, adapted infrastructure for young people with disabilities, ensuring a balanced composition of participants in our workshops in terms of cultural background, gender, etc. We also work closely with specialized organizations, such as WMKJs, that reach disadvantaged target groups.

In recent years, we have also paid more attention to ecological sustainability (SDG 12.5 and GRI 301-2, 301-3, 306-2) through the consumption and promotion of ecological & sustainable promotional tools: such as organic cotton backpacks & eco pins. This is also taken into account in the balance of offline and online promotion. In addition, we also use ecological workshop and office materials. We use second-hand office materials and workshop materials (iPad). Workshop materials that we temporarily do not need are lent out free of charge to socially vulnerable target groups via WMKJs. We also see sharing infrastructure as working in an ecologically sustainable way.

For catering purposes, we also have an eye for fair trade foods. In the organization of our film festival Filem’On and the commuting we stimulate the use of public transport by employees and guests. We also make efficient use of online tools for telework and consultation with the team.

Our VOD platform is sustainable and environmentally friendly. With green cloud hosting, Tilaa helps you to achieve your CSR objective. For example, we exclusively use data centres that are CO2 neutral and run on 100% green electricity. In addition, our data centers are ISO 14001 certified which requires them to continuously innovate at the energy saving level. The achieved PUE ratio is currently below 1.2, which is the lowest available in the market today.

Our sustainability policy is constantly evolving!
